To vs too vs two
To shows direction or who gets something, or comes before a verb. Too means also, or beyond what is right or wanted (too hot, too little). Two is the number 2. All three can sound the same, though to is often said tuh.
Too has an extra o, more than it needs. Two has the w of twin and twice.
to preposition
As a preposition, toward a place or person, or showing who gets something (give it to her). Before a verb, it marks the verb's basic form (want to go).
- We walked to the park after lunch.
- I want to learn Spanish this year.
too adverb
More than is needed or wanted. It can also mean also, or in addition.
- This coffee is too hot to drink.
- Can I come too?
two numeral
The number 2, one more than one.
- I have two brothers and a sister.
- The meeting will last two hours.
Watch out
- To can end a sentence when the verb after it is left out because it is understood. Write to here, not too.She meant to phone but forgot to.
- Too before a describing word usually means more than is wanted. But it can also just mean very, as in not too bad and you're too kind, or, in casual speech, too cute!Oh, you're too kind!
