- 1Third-person singular present of accompany.

Note
The -y of accompany becomes -ies after the consonant p, as in carries and copies, and the form takes only a singular subject: she accompanies, the map accompanies. Most uses need a direct object, but the musical one can stand alone. A pianist who simply accompanies is playing the supporting part. Two older intransitive uses, keeping company and cohabiting, are obsolete.
