actioned
- 1Simple past and past participle of action.
The support team actioned every ticket before the holiday weekend.
Each safety concern raised in the audit was promptly actioned.
Note
A regular verb, so one form covers both the past tense and the participle: the team actioned the request, and the request has been actioned. The verb is transitive, which is why the passive comes so easily: a concern is actioned, a ticket is actioned. An older, now archaic use meant bringing a lawsuit against someone, so in that sense a person, not a request, could be actioned.
- 2Equipped with or characterized by a particular kind of operating mechanism or movement, specified by a preceding modifier.
The teacher warned that the old upright was too heavy-actioned for a beginner's small hands.
The factory shipped its lever-actioned pumps to farms across the region.
Note
A possessional adjective, built like long-legged or blue-eyed: a noun plus -ed, meaning "having an action of this kind." It almost never stands alone. A modifier comes first and the pair is hyphenated, as in double-actioned revolvers. Here action means the working mechanism of a gun, piano or pump, not a deed. The word is not compared: nothing is more double-actioned than something else.
- 3Having had deliberate work, handling, or progress carried out on it.
By Friday the team reviewed only the actioned cases and set the rest aside.
An actioned complaint moves automatically to the archive folder.

Note
The participle turned into a label. Placed before a noun, it sorts work into done and not yet done: the actioned items, an actioned complaint. It applies to tasks and assignments, not to people. It is also all-or-nothing, so it takes no "more" or "very." After a verb, as in "the item was actioned," the word is usually the past participle in a passive instead.
