ASAP
- 1Initialism of as soon as possible.
The manager asked everyone to submit their expense reports ASAP.
Dispatchers told the crew to reach the accident site ASAP.
Note
A military coinage that went civilian. Its first known use is in The Greatest Airlift (1954) by Captain Annis G Thompson, who was involved in the Korean War, and the forces originally meant "as soon as militarily possible." It now works like any adverb of time, usually closing an instruction (check those figures ASAP). It cannot be compared: nothing is more ASAP than something else. Its natural opposite is at leisure.
