Buddhists
USBOO-dists/ˈbudɪsts/UKBUUD-ists/ˈbudɪsts/
- 1Plural of Buddhist.
Thousands of Buddhists gather at the shrine each year to mark the festival.
Some Buddhists follow strict vegetarian diets as part of their practice.
Note
A regular plural that belongs only to the noun. Buddhist also works as an adjective (Buddhist monks, a Buddhist temple), and English adjectives never take the -s. The plural therefore appears only where the word stands for people on its own: many Buddhists, Buddhists in the region. Writing "Buddhists monks" is an error. Like Buddha, the word keeps its capital in every form.
