Note
In software the word travels with email: Rand Morimoto's Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Unleashed (2004) speaks of the standard email and calendaring functions of Outlook. As a mass noun it takes no a and no plural, and it sits comfortably before other nouns (calendaring software, a calendaring server), while shared calendaring names a team seeing one another's free time.
- 2Present participle and gerund of calendar.
The judge is calendaring the motion for a hearing after the holidays.
Calendaring each filing deadline the day it arrives keeps the firm out of trouble.
Note
Courtrooms and offices both use this form. A judge calendaring a motion sets a date for it, usually at a calendar call; anyone calendaring a deadline enters it in a calendar. Both meanings take an object, the case or the item, and the final r is not doubled before -ing. Used as a bare activity with no object, it shades into the software sense.
