capabilities
- 1Plural of capability.
The team assessed the software's capabilities before signing the contract.
Modern aircraft combine surveillance and combat capabilities in a single platform.
Note
The plural exists only where capability is counted: separate powers or features listed one by one, rather than ability as a general mass. The singular works both ways: a country's capability, or its many capabilities. Computing adds its own countable use, in which capabilities are digital tokens that grant a user or process specific rights over a protected object, so in security writing the word names permissions, not talents.
