concerting
- 1Joint activity that two or more people plan and carry out together.

Similarcoordination, cooperation, collaboration
Note
Unlike the verbal gerund, this noun can be counted: concertings, each a distinct act of doing something together. It lives in analytic prose. The Development Coordination Committee's Development Issues (1979) speaks of "global concertings of international actions." Derek Melser's The Act of Thinking (2004) uses it for the shared routines of caregiver and infant. In ordinary writing, in concert or a concerted effort says the same thing more plainly.
- 2Present participle of concert.
The two governments are concerting their efforts to reduce pollution.
Organizers spent weeks concerting the details of the parade.
Note
A verb that takes an object: governments are concerting their efforts, organizers are concerting a plan. The verb behind it means arranging something by mutual agreement, not performing music. So concerting has nothing to do with the concert hall, even though it shares a spelling with that noun. The same -ing form also names the joint activity itself, the countable noun, which can take a plural.
