confessions
- 1Plural of confession.
The detective compared the two confessions for inconsistencies.
Several confessions were obtained during the long investigation.
Note
A plural that only works where confession can be counted. Separate admissions, signed statements and the creeds churches ask new members to assent to all take it: two confessions, rival confessions of faith. When confession names the religious practice in general, the disclosure of sins to a priest now also called the sacrament of reconciliation, it stays singular. Confessions then means individual occasions of it.
