counted
KOWN-id/ˈkaʊnɪd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of count.
The teacher counted the students as they boarded the bus.
Every ballot was counted late into the night.
Note
One spelling does two jobs here: the simple past (she counted the chairs) and the participle after have or be. Only the transitive meanings can be made passive: every ballot was counted, he was counted among the leaders. The intransitive ones, such as "to matter" or "to amount to," use the participle only in perfect forms: her objection has always counted.
