decorations
- 1Plural of decoration.
The shop sold festive decorations throughout December.
Volunteers spent the afternoon arranging decorations along the parade route.
Note
Two quite different things answer to this plural. Usually it counts objects added to adorn something, such as ornaments for a holiday or a parade route. It also counts honors worn on the person: medals, crosses, ribbons of an order, bestowed for war service or for achievement in literature and art. Context does the sorting, so a veteran's decorations are awards, not ornaments. In Hong Kong English the word can also mean refurbishment.
