Note
The present-tense form for a single subject other than I or you: she defines, the law defines. Because define already ends in a silent e, the -s attaches directly, with no added vowel. It carries nearly every sense of the verb, from fixing a boundary to stating what a word means. The exception is the conversational challenge "Define 'soon'," which is a command and so always takes the bare form.
