detections
- 1Plural of detection.
The new sensors logged thousands of detections over the weekend.
Most false detections were traced back to a faulty antenna.
Note
The plural belongs only to the countable side of detection: individual events that can be tallied, like the hits a sensor logs or the signals a receiver picks out of a carrier wave. When detection names the process itself, the work of finding out, it stays uncountable and takes no plural. The old sense of an accusation exposing a crime or heresy is obsolete, so detections today never means charges laid against someone.
