efficiencies
- 1Plural of efficiency.
The merger created operational efficiencies across both companies.
Engineers compared the efficiencies of the two engine designs.
Note
A plural that exists only where efficiency stops being a mass noun. Uncountable, it names a quality. Counted, it becomes things you can list: the separate savings a merger produces, or the measured ratios of useful work to energy (symbol η) that engineers compare. In US usage it also counts homes, since efficiencies are one-room apartments. For the quality in general, the singular is the safer choice.
