flashed
FLASHT/flæʃt/
- 1Simple past and past participle of flash.
Lightning flashed across the sky during the storm.
The warning sign flashed red as the train approached the crossing.
Note
One spelling does two jobs, as with any regular -ed verb: the simple past (the light flashed) and the participle after have or had (the light had flashed). The transitive uses also allow a passive, as in a signal flashed across the valley or a badge flashed at the door. Mind the informal 'expose oneself' meaning: he flashed the crowd reads very differently from he flashed a smile.
