frequencies
- 1Plural of frequency.
The technician scanned through several radio frequencies to find a clear channel.
High frequencies tend to fade faster over long distances.
Note
A plural that only some meanings of frequency can take. The physicist's rate of oscillation counts, as in radio frequencies or high and low frequencies, and so does the experimenter's tally of how often an event occurred. The sense of simply happening often does not: you speak of the frequency of complaints, never their frequencies, because that frequency is a quality rather than a measured value.
