Fridays
- 1Plural of Friday.
Most Fridays end with a team lunch at the corner café.
The next three Fridays are booked solid with meetings.
Note
A regular plural that keeps its capital letter, as every day-name does. It carries all the noun meanings of the singular, including the colloquial one, the last workday of a schedule. So someone on a Tuesday-to-Saturday rota can say their Fridays fall on Saturdays. When the bare plural follows a verb with no article or "on," it has become the adverb.
- 2On a given Friday, or on every Friday as a regular, repeating occurrence.
The farmers' market runs Fridays through the summer.
He plays poker with his old college friends Fridays.
Note
A North American habit of dropping the preposition: the bare day-name does the work of "on Fridays" by itself, as in works Fridays or closes early Fridays. It usually comes after the verb or at the end of the clause. The spelling is shared with the plural noun, but used this way it takes no article and no "on". Read it as an adverb, like weekly.
