guilts
SayGILTS/ɡɪlts/
- 1Third-person singular present of guilt.
Whenever sales lag, the manager guilts the team into staying late.
My grandmother guilts everyone at the table into a second helping.
Note
The present-tense form of a verb that has led two lives. In current use it is informal and transitive: someone guilts another person, usually into doing something (guilts her into calling, guilts them into a donation). An older, now obsolete intransitive verb meant simply to commit offenses, so 'he guilts' in old text means he does wrong, not that he makes anyone feel bad.
