imported
USim-POR-tid/ɪmˈpɔɹtɪd/UKim-PAW-tid/ɪmˈpɔːtɪd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of import.
The merchant imported silk and spices along the old trade routes.
Most of the electronics sold here are imported from Asia.
Note
One regular -ed spelling does two jobs. It is the simple past (they imported the goods) and the participle used after have in the perfect (has imported) or after be in the passive (was imported from Asia). The same form also carries the verb's sense of mattering. That sense takes no object and so never turns passive: what imported most was the timing. Files are imported too, in software.
