interfacing
- 1A layer of fabric placed between other layers of a garment to add stiffness and structure.
Like a hidden backbone for a garment, giving body to areas where the outer fabric alone would droop.
The pattern calls for fusible interfacing along the front button band.
Without interfacing, the waistband would sag and lose its shape after a few washes.
- 2Present participle of interface.

Interfacing directly with customers gives the support team valuable feedback.
Note
The -ing form does double duty. As a participle it builds progressive tenses (is interfacing with), and as a gerund it names the activity itself. It carries the verb's full range: linking systems, serving as the link, or people meeting to talk. It usually takes with before the other party. Only the sewing noun has a plural, interfacings, and the verbal form never does.
