listened
LIS-uhnd/ˈlɪsn̩d/
- 1Simple past and past participle of listen.
The jury listened intently as the witness described that night.
He had listened to every word before offering his advice.
Note
One regular -ed form does both jobs: on its own it is the simple past, and after have or had it completes the perfect. Before an object it needs to (listened to the radio). Without an object it can carry listen's other meaning, heeding advice: "I warned him, but he never listened" means he did not take the warning, not that he failed to hear it.
