mids
- 1Plural of mid.
On the larger maps, snipers in the towers can watch both mids at once.
Our squad held the mids for most of the round, which kept the other team boxed in near their spawn.
Note
Only the noun takes this plural, formed regularly with -s: the gamer's mid, the middle of the battlefield, and the archaic mid, the middle of a space or a stretch of time. The adjective never inflects for number. A vowel is mid, an unremarkable song is mid, but neither is ever mids. The identical spelling also belongs to the marijuana slang, a separate word with its own history.
- 2Marijuana of middle grade, better than the cheapest kind but short of top quality.
Rather than pay dispensary prices, they split a bag of mids and smoked it on the porch.
The grower sorts each harvest into top-shelf buds and cheaper mids.
Note
Smokers rank weed on a rough ladder, and this word holds the middle rung, with shwag below and dank above, as Scott Jacques and Richard Wright's Code of the Suburb (2015) has it. The word is middle clipped short, plus an -s that may have begun as a plural or a possessive. Either way it now behaves as a mass noun: you smoke mids or pick up some mids, never three mids.
