mooed
SayMOOD/muːd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of moo.
The herd mooed restlessly as the storm clouds gathered overhead.
Somewhere in the dark barn, a calf mooed for its mother.
Note
One spelling does double duty here, as with most regular verbs: the herd mooed is the simple past, and the calf had mooed is the perfect. Because moo is intransitive, the participle has no ordinary passive, since nothing gets "mooed" by a cow. The form also has no link to the British slang noun for a foolish woman. It belongs only to the verb for lowing.
