November
- 1The eleventh month of the Gregorian calendar, coming after October and before December.
The museum will reopen in November after a two-year renovation.
A cold November rain kept most of the crowd away from the parade.
UsageIn November, but on a date: on November 5. Written with a capital N.
Note
The name still counts by an older calendar: Latin novem means "nine", and November was the ninth month of the Roman year before it became the eleventh of ours. Before another noun it often carries the season with it: a cold November rain, or the brief November day of John Keble's The Christian Year (1827).

Origin
Latin novem ("nine") gave November ("ninth month"), so named because it was the ninth month of the Roman calendar; the name reached English through Old French novembre and Middle English Novembre. It took the place of the Old English blōtmōnaþ ("sacrifice month"), named for the sacrifices the pagan Anglo-Saxons offered in this month before the onset of winter.
