outlined
- 1Simple past and past participle of outline.
The manager outlined the budget cuts during the morning meeting.
The proposal was outlined in three short paragraphs for the board.
Note
One regular -ed form does double duty: the simple past (she outlined the plan) and the participle after have or be (the plan was outlined). It carries every sense of the verb: tracing a shape, summarizing, and a programmer's meaning, in which repeated code fragments are replaced with function calls to save size. Placed before a noun, the participle becomes the adjective for marked edges, as in an outlined figure.
- 2Having or marked with an outline that traces the outer edge of a shape or form.
The outlined regions on the map showed the disputed territory clearly.
Each outlined figure stood out sharply against the dark background.
