paragraphed
- 1Simple past and past participle of paragraph.
The copy editor paragraphed the dense chapter into readable sections.
Once the draft was paragraphed, the argument became much clearer.
Note
A regular -ed form, so one spelling serves as both past tense and participle: the editor paragraphed the chapter; the chapter was paragraphed. The verb also has a journalistic meaning, to write someone up in a brief newspaper notice. Letitia Elizabeth Landon's Romance and Reality (1831) warns a would-be public figure, "you will be paragraphed—probably pelted." Before a noun, the participle shades into the descriptive adjective.
- 2Containing paragraphs, or organized into distinct paragraph divisions.
The reviewer praised the tightly paragraphed report for its clarity.
A properly paragraphed essay guides the reader from one point to the next.
