pathed
- 1Simple past and past participle of path.
Note
One spelling serves both the simple past and the participle, and the verb behind it decides the grammar. In the landscaping sense the verb is transitive, so it takes an object or a passive (the trails were pathed). The computing senses, navigating a directory tree or pathfinding, are intransitive: a user pathed to a folder, and nothing receives the action.
She pathed to the downloads folder and found the file at last.
The character pathed around the wall instead of walking into it.
- 2Furnished with a path or walkway for travel on foot.
The pathed section of the reserve attracts more visitors than the wild areas.
A carefully pathed garden invites slow, wandering walks among the beds.

Note
An adjective that also works as the tail of a compound, where the word before it says what kind of path: Charles Morris's The San Francisco Calamity (2002) has "slippery-pathed precipices" yawning around a glacier. Joined that way, it is hyphenated before its noun. It does not take degrees, since a place is pathed or it is not. It shares its spelling with the past forms of the verb.
