pictured
- 1Simple past and past participle of picture.
The committee pictured a very different outcome when the project began.
The final design was pictured in early sketches long before construction started.
Note
One regular -ed spelling does two jobs: the simple past (she pictured the scene) and the participle after have or be (it had been pictured, it was pictured). Because picture is transitive, the verb always needs an object or a passive subject. Context decides whether something was drawn, imagined or vividly described. A committee that pictured an outcome imagined it, while a design pictured in sketches was drawn.
