pisses
- 1Third-person singular simple present indicative of piss.
The old tomcat pisses on the porch whenever he gets shut out of the house.
Every time he drinks too much beer, he pisses in the alley behind the bar.
Note
With an object the verb names what is passed with the urine, as in he pisses blood. With it as subject and down after it, the verb means heavy rain: it pisses down all afternoon. In British, Irish and Commonwealth speech it can also mean to do something with ease, so a student who pisses the test finds it no trouble at all.
- 2Plural of piss.
On a six-hour drive with two toddlers, we stopped for more pisses than I could count.
The guys lined up behind the bleachers for their halftime pisses.
Note
The plural belongs mainly to the countable meanings, above all the act itself: stops for pisses on a long drive. Urine is usually uncountable and rarely takes the s, while the word for cheap drink can go either way. Like every form of the word it is mildly vulgar, comfortable among friends and out of place in formal writing.
