podcasts
- 1Plural of podcast.
Several true-crime podcasts dominated the listening charts last year.
The network bundles a dozen podcasts under a single subscription.
Note
Counting podcasts can mean counting two different things. The noun names a whole regular program and, more broadly, a single episode of one. So "three podcasts" may be three separate shows or three installments of the same show, and context settles which. The same spelling also serves as the present-tense verb, as in a station that podcasts its news.
- 2Third-person singular simple present of podcast.
The station podcasts its morning show for listeners who miss the live broadcast.
Our professor podcasts each seminar so students abroad can follow along.
Note
The verb works with or without an object. Used transitively, it takes what is being delivered: a station podcasts its morning show. Used intransitively, it stands alone for the regular activity itself: she podcasts every Friday. Either way, the -s ending agrees with a single third-person subject in the present tense.
She podcasts every Friday from her kitchen table.
He no longer podcasts, but his archive is still online.
