pricing
- 1The act of setting the price for a product or service.
The company's pricing of its software reflected months of market research.
Careful pricing can determine whether a new product succeeds or fails.
Note
Whether it counts depends on what is meant. As an ongoing activity it takes no plural (careful pricing, the pricing of software), but separate decisions can be counted, giving pricings. Keep it distinct from the price level itself: "the pricing was too high" describes a result, while "pricing took months" describes the work of arriving at it.
- 2The level or amount at which something's price is set.
The pricing of luxury cars puts them out of reach for many buyers.
Customers complained that the pricing was well above competitors' rates.

- 3Present participle and gerund of price.
The team is pricing its services based on current demand.
Pricing the antiques correctly required an expert's eye.
Note
The verb form does double duty. In "the team is pricing its services" it is a participle building the progressive with be. In "pricing the antiques required an expert's eye" it is a gerund, a noun-like subject that still takes an object. Its living use is putting a value on goods. Paying for or prizing something is obsolete, and pricing an item in the sense of asking what it costs is dated.
