raced
- 1Past tense and past participle of race.
She raced down the hallway the moment the alarm sounded.
The two cars raced around the track for fifty grueling laps.
Note
One spelling does both jobs: she raced home, and she has raced before. It carries every sense of the verb. It can be transitive, as in he raced his brother to the gate, or mechanical, as when an engine raced with the clutch out. A quieter verb, to assign someone a race, shares the spelling too, and its participle stands behind the social-science adjective.
- 2Belonging to a particular race of people; marked or categorized by racial group.
Scholars examined how raced identities shape access to housing and jobs.
The study explored raced experiences within the public school system.

Note
Academic prose uses it before a noun, as in raced identities and raced experiences, and also after a verb. Steve Garner's Whiteness: An Introduction (2007) describes white students coming to realize they are raced. That second use carries the field's point: racial categories are applied to everyone, white people included. The word does not take degrees, so more raced is not idiomatic.
