recalled
Sayri-KAWLD/ɹɪˈkɔld/UK/ɹɪˈkɔːld/
- 1Simple past and past participle of recall.
He recalled every detail of that summer afternoon at the lake.
The senator was recalled by voters before her term ended.
Note
One -ed spelling does both jobs, because recall is regular: she recalled the name (past) and the envoy has been recalled (participle). The passive tends to belong to the senses about people and orders: an ambassador summoned home, a command revoked, or, in US politics, an official removed by petition and direct vote. When memory is meant, the active is far more natural: say I recalled it, not it was recalled by me.
