revived
Sayruh-VYVD/rəˈvaɪvd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of revive.
The summer festival was revived after a decade of cancellations.
Volunteers revived the neglected community garden over the spring.
Note
One spelling does two jobs: the simple past (the medic revived him) and the participle after have or be (he had been revived). Revive normally takes an object, such as a fainted patient, a lapsed custom or a faded memory. So the participle sits easily in passives and before nouns: a revived tradition, revived interest. The silent e of revive simply takes -d, so nothing doubles or changes.
