Origin
From Middle English rosmary, an alteration (reshaped after rose + Mary) of earlier rosmarine. It came partly from Old French rosmarin and partly straight from Latin rōsmarīnus, formed from rōs ('dew, moisture') plus marīnus ('of the sea').
