searched
SaySURCHT/sɝt͡ʃt/UK/sɜːtʃt/
- 1Simple past and past participle of search.
Investigators searched the abandoned warehouse for clues.
She searched her bag twice but still couldn't find her phone.
Note
One regular -ed form does duty for the past (they searched the house) and, after have or be, for the perfect and passive (the house was searched). Notice what takes the object: the place, not the thing wanted, so you searched the room for your keys. Making the sought thing the direct object, as in searched the truth, is archaic. An older, obsolete use searched a wound by probing it.
