slept
SLEPT/slɛpt/
- 1Simple past and past participle of sleep.
She slept soundly after the long journey home.
By the time we arrived, the children had slept for hours.
Note
One spelling covers both past forms: she slept, and she had slept. The vowel shortens and the ending is -t rather than -ed, so 'sleeped' is a slip. Every use of the verb carries into this form. That includes the transitive one about beds (the cottage slept four guests) and the euphemistic one, where 'they had slept together' means sex rather than rest.
