spaced
- 1Simple past and past participle of space.
The gardener spaced the seedlings ten inches apart.
The lampposts were spaced at regular intervals along the road.
Note
One regular -ed form does both jobs: the plain past (she spaced the posts) and the participle after have or be (the posts were spaced evenly). It usually means setting things apart, in a row or on a page. The same spelling also carries the grim transitive sense of killing someone by ejecting them into outer space, and the past of space out, drifting into distraction. Context tells them apart.
