Similarstorytelling, narration, recounting
Note
A word at home in scholarly writing about narrative and identity, where it readily becomes countable. William L. Randall and Elizabeth McKim's Reading Our Lives (2008) calls for "different storyings" of the same material, and Ann-Marie Bathmaker and Penelope Harnett (2010) describe other people's storyings feeding "the storyings of my own life." The plural is the point: each storying is one way of shaping events, so a single life can have several.
- 2Present participle and gerund of story.
Note
Two quite different verbs share this form. The older one is transitive and means to narrate, as in storying a company's origins. The newer one comes from apps: it means posting a sequence of pictures or short videos, with or without an object, and is sometimes written with a capital S. The same spelling also serves as the noun for the telling itself, which, unlike the gerund, can take a plural.
