summaries
SaySUM-uh-reez/ˈsʌməɹiz/
- 1Plural of summary.
The analyst attached brief summaries of each report to the email.
Editors often write the summaries that appear at the top of long articles.
Note
A regular plural that follows the spelling rule for nouns ending in a consonant plus y: the y becomes i before -es, as in stories and libraries. Only the noun takes this form. Summary is also an adjective, as in a summary dismissal or summary justice, and English adjectives have no plural. So summaries always means condensed accounts, never speedy proceedings.
