swung
SWUNG/swʌŋ/
- 1Simple past and past participle of swing.
He swung from the rope and dropped into the cold river below.
By morning the heavy door had swung wide open in the wind.
Note
One spelling does double duty: the same form is the simple past (the door swung open) and, after have, the participle (the door had swung open). It carries the gallows sense of its base verb too, where swing for something means to be hanged for it. That sense is often hyperbolic, so "he'd have swung for that" usually means severe punishment rather than a literal rope.
