talked
SayTAWKT/tɔkt/UK/tɔːkt/
- 1Simple past and past participle of talk.
They talked quietly in the hallway so they wouldn't wake the baby.
The neighbors had talked about the fence for months before fixing it.
Note
One regular spelling covers two jobs. It is the simple past on its own (they talked for hours), and the participle after have (they had talked about it for weeks). Since talk mostly works without an object, its passive usually keeps the preposition: the plan was talked about for months. In slang, a bare he talked can mean he confessed and implicated others.
