texted
- 1Simple past and past participle of text.
He texted the address to everyone in the group.
They texted back and forth all evening about the plan.
Note
One regular -ed form does double duty, so she texted me and she has texted me look alike on the page. The verb works with or without an object: you can text a friend, have the code texted to you, or simply text all evening. An older, now dated verb meaning to write in large characters, as in text hand, would produce the same spelling, but the messaging sense is the living one.
- 2Accompanied by a written or sung text, as when music is set to words rather than left purely instrumental.
The program paired a texted choral work with a short orchestral overture.
Most of the album consists of texted tracks, with only one purely instrumental.

Note
A musicologist's term, and an either-or one: a piece is texted or untexted, never more or less so. It usually comes before a noun, as when Michael Cherlin's Music's Making (2024) writes of studying texted music. Out of context it can be misread as the messaging verb, so a phrase like texted choral works keeps the musical sense clear.
