Origin
From Middle English thirttene, a variant (through metathesis) of thrittene, from Old English þrēotīene, from Proto-Germanic *þritehun, a compound of *þrīz ("three") and *tehun ("teen"). It is equivalent to three + -teen and is related to Dutch dertien and German dreizehn.
