turned
SayTURND/tɝnd/UK/tɜːnd/
- 1Simple past and past participle of turn.
He turned left at the corner and kept walking toward the river.
The milk had turned sour by the time we got home.
Note
A regular past form built with -ed, so one spelling covers both the simple past (she turned) and the participle (has turned, was turned). Only the transitive uses can go passive: a chair leg is turned on a lathe, but a walker who changes direction has turned, never was turned. Before a noun, the lathe meaning yields a handy adjective: turned wood, a turned bowl.
