unmuting
Sayun-MYOO-tingUS/ʌnˈmjutɪŋ/UK/ʌnˈmjuːtɪŋ/
- 1Present participle and gerund of unmute.
She apologized before unmuting her microphone to speak.
Unmuting the call let everyone hear the announcement at last.
Note
An undoing word: it assumes something was muted first, so it means bringing sound back rather than simply switching it on. Unmute takes a direct object, and the -ing form keeps that object whether it acts as a verb or as a noun. You hear it as a verb in she was unmuting her mic, and as a noun in unmuting the speaker fixed the problem.
