walked
- 1Simple past and past participle of walk.
The hikers walked twelve miles before stopping to rest.
He had walked that route many times before the trail closed.
Note
One spelling does two jobs, as with every regular verb: the plain past (they walked home) and the participle after have (they had walked home). Because walk can also take an object, such as a distance or a dog taken out, the participle forms passives too: the dog was walked at dawn. In colloquial, euphemistic use, a thing that has walked has quietly gone missing, usually stolen.
The dog had already been walked by the time I got home.
Somebody's stapler has walked again; it was on my desk this morning.
