clicked
- 1Simple past and past participle of click.
She clicked the link and the page opened instantly.
The photographer clicked the shutter at the perfect moment.
Note
One spelling does double duty, and the verb's two kinds of use decide how far it stretches. Where click takes an object (a switch, a mouse button, a link, a website), the participle can turn passive: the link was clicked twice. Where it only makes the sound, as a latch does, it stays active: the latch had clicked shut. In British usage, clicked one's fingers means snapped them.
