Note
A plural-only word. In this sense you read the funnies, never a funny, and the phrase usually comes with the. Funny papers and funny pages are fuller versions of the same name, and comics is the neutral choice. Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" (1987) sets it beside the horoscope, among the light pages a reader turns to after the news.
- 2Plural of funny.

The comedian tested a batch of new funnies on the small crowd.
Note
A regular plural, with the y of funny becoming -ies. Each countable noun sense of funny can take it: several jokes, a run of comic strips, or, in dated British and Irish usage, a number of narrow sculling boats.
