mentioned
- 1Simple past and past participle of mention.
The report mentioned several risks that managers had overlooked.
Both candidates were mentioned as possible replacements for the retiring director.
Note
One spelling does two jobs. As a simple past it carries the sentence alone (she mentioned it once). As a past participle it needs have for the perfect (has mentioned) or be for the passive (was mentioned). It also carries the verb's narrower meaning: a word that is mentioned rather than used is quoted as itself, not for what it names, as when cat is mentioned in a remark about three-letter words.
